Information Literacy Programmes

Library conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Role and Relevance of Information Literacy in the Globalised Era” from 08/03/2012 to 09/03/2012. This seminar was the land-mark effort in the promotion of information literacy in South Kerala in general.

These effort made by the college library in promoting information literacy were worth mentioning and deserve all the support and encouragement of whole academic community of in and outside the nation. Almost all participants suggested that the need of the hour is the implementation of information literacy right from school to higher level of learning, which calls for the revamping of education system in India.

A paper presented in the seminar by Ms.Hellen Agne Amunga, Lecturer, Dept. of Educational Communication & Technology, School of Education, Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya made a platform for the active discussion among the participants. Major areas discussed in the seminar were plagiarism and reference management, journal citation services on the internet, information literacy in education etc.

Objectives of the workshop

a . To enable teachers become competent in innovatively employing the tools of technology to supplement their traditional teaching methods and thereby achieve enhanced student learning.
b . To enhance ICT literacy and confidence among teachers,
c . To provide an overview and understanding of online tools with ICT integration.
d . Give an insight on a series of ICT tools that implicitly support creative learning and innovative teaching;

Workshop helped very much the participants to familiarized some of the technological areas such as best practices for academic communication in online environment, collaboration tools for academic community,Reference management software such as Mendle, Zotero etc.

St.Peter’s College library collaborated with St.Stephen’s College Uzhavoor to conduct a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on ‘Mass Communication: challenges, Trends and Future’ on 12th and 13th November, 2014.

Staff Enrichment Programmes

Our library staff visited St.Theresa’s college library Ernakulum to make awareness about the organization of digital library collection on May 2014. The aim of the visit was to refresh the library staff and educate them about the prevailing work practices in other college libraries. As this visit makes our staff more enthusiastic and resourceful, it resulted in a qualitative improvement in digitized library services. This visit encouraged our library staff to start a digital library ‘PRAMANA’ in the college.

Library staff visited the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Cochin on 20/11/2015 to know about the features and functions of a special library. This was a great experience. It was an inspiration for our staff to started a new service i.e., SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information) Service for our academic community.

College authority give oppurtunities to library assistants to participate in various seminars to make them updated in the library and Information Science field. Ms Besily Varghese (library assistant) participated in a seminar on National Library and Information Services: Infrastructure for Scholarly Content(NLIST) Orientation Programme jointly organized by the University Library ,CUSAT and UGC-INFLIBNET on 03/09/2014

Library organised one day training programme for the staff on Digital Library Management using D-Space open source software

Orientation Programme

Library conducts an Orientation programs for the new comers to make awareness about the collections and services of our college library in beginning of every academic year. This is our basic Information Literacy program for our college students. The main aim of this programme is to enable library users to become skilled at finding their needed information and thus foster the feelings of confidence and independence in the information retrieval process.

As the library subscribe about 7000 + e – journals and 100000+ e – books , librarian gives hands on training sessions for our college students in the usage of these online resources.

Poster Display

Library conducted a poster display in association with Dept. Library and Information Science , regarding UN Week celebration on 23/10/2014 to make awareness about United Nation’s activities among college students.

News Display

Live News Display with head phone facility for especially differently abled members is available at the entrance of the library.

Reading Week

Celebrated “Reading Week” by conducting Book Exhibition – display of works of famous authors in Hindi, Malayalam and English language.

Students Participation Programme

Students from Hindi Department participated in the arrangement and automation of library documents.

Earn While Learn Programme

Library introduced a new program i.e., ‘Earn While Learn Program’ for our students to make awareness about library operations.III rd year B.A English Students participated in this program and were rewarded remuneration.

Resource Sharing

College Library collected books from Brookside Club of Kolenchery and shared to neighboring school libraries - St.Paul’s Bethany Public School and B.Ed College Kolenchery in the academic year 2014.

Book Exhibition

College library in association with Pai sons Book sellers conducted a book exhibition in the college auditorium ground on February 15th 2016.
